Wairarapa Daily Times Established 49 Years. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1923. MUCH-NEEDED THOROUGHFARE.
Tiio Chamber of Commerce had before it again at yesterday’s meeting the question of the making of a roadway from Pownall street through the gasworks property to the railway station. It was stated that an estimate made by tho Borough Engineer for the work set the price down at £I2OO. This, we presume, would be to make a thoroughfare in the orthodox style. However, nothing very elaborate would be required in the matter of a roadway. It would be sufficient for the needs of the west end of tho town, which would principally benefit by such a thoroughfare, if there were a track capable of providing access to and from tho railway station for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. If the Borough Council is able, with the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce, to persuade the Railway Department to fall into lino with the new scheme, it will have performed a service of considerable benefit to a very large section of the borough.
