THE PHILLIPINES.

ELECTION RESULTS. DEMAND FOR INDEPENDENCE. MANILA, Wednesday. Complete returns show that Senor Ramon Fernandez was elected with an insular Senate by a safe majority, thus scoring a Coalitionists’ (anti-American) victory, which strengthens the agitators for -immediate independence, as well as the anti-Wood forces. A Coalitionist manifesto invites all the natives to “join us in our national undertaking to overthrow the autocracy of General Woods.” The election was orderly throughont the islands, except at Bataan, where a Coalitionist was shot by a Democratic adherent. —Aus. and N.Z.
