The weather was good, but the wicket was bad. There -was an attendance of 4000. Mullett and McDonald opened the bowling to Hearne and Hendren. After eleven runs had been scored there was an adjournment. Hearne played forward the third ball from McDonald., and spooned it into the hands of Kvder at mid-off. Woolley followed. Both batsmen laid the wood on the loose bowling,, and the wicket was beginning to look dilapidated. Some balls kicked liigb. Rvdor relieved Mullett. and Hendren clouted his first ball, a full toss, to the fence at leg. , Woolley gave Liddicutt the chance of a catch at mid-off, but the fieldsman dropped it. ■ At 8.5, with the score at 418, Douglas closed the innings, which occupied 365 minutes. ■ . McDonald took two wickets for bo, and Byder one for 76. Mayne and Park -went to the crease for Victoria’s second innings, and th© former narrowly missed being stumped and bowled off Woolley's first, over, which was a maiden. Rhodes bowled from the grandstand end, and another maiden resulted. Marne scored his first run off Woolley. Park was at the wicket, for eighteen minutes before opening his score. He brought a fine stroke off Woolley and ran to double figures .with a snick to leg off the next ball. Twenty appeared on the board in half an hour. Mayne had been making uppish strokes, and at last lie put a ball into the hands of Hendren at mid-off, and Park was l.b.w. two balls later, both to RlioC Ryder and Lampard became, associat■ccL* Rhodes was bowling a splendid length. . , , After scoring nine, Willis poked a delivery froip Woolley into the hands of Pender. Hampard repeated the stroke after another run was scored, and Hendren took the catch —f for 82. Bhodes bowled Ryder in the next over, and with his next ball got another wicket, Moyes being smartly stumped bp Dolphin. Hansford and Liddicutt stopped the rot, and brought the score from 34 to 69, when Ransford was caught at longfield. Rhodes tempted McDonald, who uas caught in the deep slip. Ellis was bowled first ball. Victoria’s second innings lasted for 112 minutes. . . England won the match by an innings and 59 runs. Following were the scores: — ENGLAND.—First Innings.
