FIRE INSURANCE.

QUESTION OF PREMIUM REDUCTION. A WEAK EXCUSE. The general manager of the State Fire Insurance Company wrote as follows to the Borough Council meeting last evening in regard to the Council’s request that the insurance rates in Masterton should be reduced: “I regret that I am uuable to agree that the occupation of the Central Hotel very materially lessens the hazard. There is still a very considerable danger of a fire getting out of hand if once started, and of such a firo spreading to other’buildings and burning out a very large.and valuable portion of the town. Ta my opinion there is no doubt that the building should be condemned ‘and removed at* the earliest possible moment. However, I hope that during the next few months' I shall have a further opportunity of inspecting your town and considering the rates.” The Council “received” the letter.
