Deceased, who was member for Taieri in the Hotfee of Representatives from 1902 to 1908, was born aL'C&versham in- 1855. He was educated in the North Taieri . district school. He studied law with Smith, Anderson and Co., and was admitted a barrister in 1579. He was an authorjjk on bimctalism, and- wps secthe New Zealand Bimetallic League". He succeeded his father as president of the Otago Early Settlers’ .Association. —Press Association. The death occurred of Mr Alex. McFarlane at Palmerston North on Tues-' dav night. Deceased, who was about -55 years of age, resided in the Pahiafor a considerable period. Hti was for many years chairman of the Ballanee Daify Company. He was also a prominent member of the North Island Dairy Association and the Farmers’ Union, and was one of the pioneer members of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association and the Pahiatua Racing Club. About nine years ago lie was el-', eeted a member of the Wellington Harbour Board for the Wairarapa district It was only recently that lie removed to Palmerston, where he contracted an illnesft that terminated in his death. The /ate Mr McFarlane is survived by a wiu3w, two sons (Messrs Hewitt and Henry McFarlane), and three daughters (Misses J. and"B.' McFarlane, all of Palmerston North, and Mrs S. T. Horne, of Ballanee).
