WATT’S RESIGNATION.
QUARREL WITH HUGHES. LONDON, Thursday. Another well-informed. Anglo-Aus-tralian authority, while not prepared to discredit a disagreement concerning the indemnity, istated... emphatically that the immediate cause ot the disagiec inent between Mr Watt an.Ulr Hogues related to wool profits. Mr Watt brought to England a complete scheme Sanctioned by tl,c c ° m ' ffionwealth Cabinet for the collection and allocation of wool profits in connection with the Commonwealth s financial obligations in London. Mr Watt carried, through successful negotiations with the Imperial Government, and informed Mr Hughes, vho thereupon proposed modifications. Mr Watt refused to reopen negotiations, and Mr Hughes replied that Cabinet insisted. , . Air Watt then cabled that, haying apparently forfeited the confidence of his colleagues, he felt compelled to resign. THE DIFFERENCE EXPLAINED. MELBOURNE, Thursday. In view of Mr Watt’s resignation, the opinion is current in political circles tha| a general election will be held shortly. It is now announced that the resignation was due to a difference with Mr Hughes as to the extent of the executive powers, Mr Watt claiming a free liaiid, which Cabinet was not prepared to concede.
