EDUCATION BOARDS.
NOT TO BE ABOLISHED. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. A deputation from the School Committees’ Association interviewed the. Hon. C. J. Barr (Minister for Education) and expressed the hope that in the pressure of education administration the high ideals that should go hand in hand with education would not be overlooked. The deputation also expressed the hope that there was nothing in the rumour that school conip. niittces and education boards were to be abolished. \
The Minister said the proposal to abolish the boards was not new 7 ; but this was the first, he had heard of ft rumour about abolishing the committees. He was a strong believer in the principle of local control and interest. He believed that a large portion of the success of the educational system w 7 as due to that principle, and would endeavour to maintain it during his control.
