THE PEACE TREATY.
Mr Lloyd George has certainly, earned the title of the world’s champion muddler. In three questions in which he has been allowed to dabble, lie has brought about a state of chaos. First, there is the Irish problem, then the peace question, and thirdly, America’s attitude. We know ourselves how lie has blundered all the time over Ireland; France supplies us with the evidence regarding the peace problems, and America has given us evidence of how Mr Lloyd George’s statement that the proposed American reservations to the Peace Treaty encouraged the proGerman element in the American Parliament to hold up the whole of the Peace Treaty as far as the United States is concerned. Mr Lloyd' Georeg has run away from the Irish problem, and has surrendered to the French over the Peace Treaty, though in the latter case he has taken the right course. According to our cables to-day, the Allies intend to send a very strong Note to the Germans demanding disarmament. It is apparent that the attitude which France has taken up over the Peace terms has caused Britain and the other Allies to ‘ ‘ wake up ’ ’ and decide to range themselves alongside France in compelling the Huns to abide by the peace .terms, The’world is sick of the shuffling that is going on in regard to
the Peace terms. The whole business suggests that the Peace Treaty is being “spun out” in the interests of the profiteers and other parasites who are living on the misfortunes of the public. The sooner France is given carte blanche in regard to the Peace Treaty the sooner will the world .have peace.
