DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS. ESTABLISHMENT OF VETERANS’ HOME. '■ . • (By Telegraph—Press Association.^ . CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday.'" •At a meeting of the Patriotic Fund Committee, the correspondence between the Lady Liverpool Fund Committee and the Minister for Internal . Affairs was read, relative to the disposal of £4OOO, out of the- surplus /if the Lady Liverpool Fund, to be vested in the Canterbury Patriotic Fund trustees and to accumulate with compound interest, for the purpose of establishing a nucleus of a fund for the foundation of a Veterans’ Home or a home for the disabled soldiers - of the Canterbury military area.
' The Lady Liverpool Fund Committee considered that it might be some years before such a home was needed, but it was the earnest wish of the fund committee that some’ provision, other than through the ordinary charitable aid channels and pensions, should be made for the future care of men who arc handicapped through the effects of war service.
The Minister advised that it was quite in order for the Lady Liverpool . Fund Committee to hand tiic money over to the Patriotic Fund Committee with the suggestion that the sum "be ear-marked for a Veterans’ Hoine/and . the balance of thie surplus to be employed for the gejnral relief of soldiers, and their dependents. 1 .
