SOLDIERS ASSAULTED,

A number of ex-soldiers and others, shouting, "Up rebels! , ' attacked and severely handled several soldiers of the Dorset Regimeut. The police vainly endeavoured to rescue the soldiers, who sheltered in the Salvation Army Hall.

A detachment of troops with fixed bayonets dispersed the rioters.
