AMERICA AND THE PEACE TREATY.

It is very evident from the action which the' American Senate has adopted in connection with the Peace Treaty that that body is strongly pro-German. The cables to-day indicate that France is viewing the American attitude with feelings of resentment. It is stated that France has already made concessions which should meet the American viewpoint. As the Senate rejects even these concessions it is very apparent that German gold has been freely circulated amongst the corrupt Senators with the view of upsetting the signing of the Treaty. If America imagines for one moment that Britain and France are as bitter enemies of cUmocracy as sbe is, then she is 'boii-ed to. disappointment.

As far as freedom is concerned, there i 3 very little difference between the United States and Germany; the balance, if any, is on the side of the Ger,mans. The United States is fond of boasting of her democracy —but she possesses no such thing. The democracy that America favours is that of the Prussian type, which believes in keeping the people in subjection and depriving them of as much freedom as possible. America for years has worshipped at the shrine of Prussiauism, and that is why to-day she refuses to sign a peace that will give the world -an enlarged democracy.
