RAILWAYMEN PROTEST
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, Thursday.
The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was held on Wednesday night, Avhen there was a very large attendance. The folloAving resolution was passed:— "That the Napier branch of the A.S.R.S. earnestly requests our executive to ask the Prime Minister to explain the reason why the, Reform Government voted the large sum of £340,----000 of public money as a bonus to butter producers, AA'hen members of the second division find it very hard indeed to exist at the present rate of Avages. We urgently demand that the executive immediately interA'iew the Minister for Railways for a definite statement regarding increases to the second division, and urgently demand a least 2s (id per day increase all round; also that the scale of increases to the police force was granted without having been placed before a committee, and why different treatment is meted out to two branches of Government servants."
