CATTLE FAIR.

Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having held their annual cattle fair at Masterton yesterday, when they offered a heavy yarding, consisting mainly of well-bred station lines. The large yarding of over 2300 head severely taxed the accommodation of the Colombo road yards, and Messrs A. J. Coox>er and Co. generously offered the use of their adjoining yards for the overflow. Owiug to the widespread shortage of feed, the usual outside com-

petition was very little in evidence, and prices ruled in accordance. Vendors, however, in most cases met the market, with the result that the greater proportion of the yarding was sold. Prices ruled as under: —Fat bullocks, £21 2s 6d, £22 2s Gd to £25 15s; light fat cows, £11 to £13; fat heifers, £8 2s 6d, £9 15s to £10 Qs; 3-year steers, £12 7s to £13 15s; 2-yeor steers, £10 to £12 6s; yearling steers to £5; 2-year heifers to £6 12s; yearling heifers, £6; coloured 4-year steers, £5 to £6 7s; 2-year empty dairy £5 13s to £S ss; store cows, £3 to £8; forward cows to £11 17s; m.s. yearlings, £2 10s ,to £4; bull, £10 7s 6d to £12 10s. A good yarding of sheep was also offered, and although most lots were passed at auction, they were eventually said at prices quoted:—Fat shorn ewes, 35s to 38s; woolly 4-tooth wethers t o40s; woolly ewes, 34s 2d to 38s; m.s 2-tooths in the wool, 30s.
