HEW ZEALAND WOOL.

PURCHASE BY UNITED STATES,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday.

Mr W. I. Carney, of Armour and Co., Christchurch, has received cable advice from Mr N. D. Baker, United States Secretary for War, stating that his appointment to represent the United States in connection wih the purchase of New Zealand wool has been confirmed. This refers to the purchase by the United States Government of 100,000 bales of New Zealand wool from the Imperial ('■!<> vernment.

The shipping is being arranged by the American Government, and four steamers have already left with part of the purchase. Tho wool has been selected by the Government valuers, and will be representative of the different qualities of which the New Zealand clip is

composed.
