TOWN HALL PICTURES.
A DOUBLE STAR PROGRAMME
"Up from Che Depths," a Mutual masterpiece in four parts, wa.s the leading attraction at the Town Hall last evening. This startling play, which pictures the story of a girl's heroic life battle and a man's regeneration, a.as screened for a week at the Crystal Palace, Sydney, and so great was its success that it was continued for a fortnight at two other leading picture houses. The drama* is founded on the old story of a girl's infatuation for a 'scoundrel, and it is said to be a fearJess criticism of that social law which tramples upon the woman who sins, but permits the other party to the contract —tho man—to go free. A notably vivid scene is Mozart's saloon in New York. Courtney Foote, in the star role, is afforded an opportunity to display those talents which have made him a. screen favourite. Charming Gladys. Brockwell. as the girl who comes "up from tho depths" to her true birthright as a wife and mother, is entitled to words of highest praise. The second star picture of the [programme is a rivered -world-famed Ivan feature, which is considered one of the greatest domestic dramas of all tire. It is the story of the unexpected return of a wife, and. is a splendid ladies' play. Supporting films include "Pathe's Gazette," a scenic study in Bothalaml, and a shrieking comedy burlesque called "Pressing Business."
