ITALIAN FRONT.

VERY HEAVY FIGHTING CONTINUES.

ROME, Wednesday. Very heavy fighting continues on the plateau of Settee Commeni, where the Austrian pressure is strongest. The Italians have evacuated Asiago, but are holding the hills to the east. The Austrians are slowly advancing in the mountainous coirntry north of the town. Tho Italian wings are holding and punishing the Austrians very severely . The admirable motor transport has saved the situation for Italy, enabling great reinforcements to reach Arsiero and the Asiago Plateau in time to stop the gap due to the breaking of the first line. There has been a most serious loss of big guns, which were abandoned on the Mont Maggio-Spitz-Lonezza line.
