FOOTBALL NOTES.
(By "Blue and Gold. ")
The passing of Mr J. H. N. Burnes, tho Wellington manager of tho Now Zealand Shipping Company, removes ono of tho earliest representatives of the Wellington Rugby Union. Ho was a member of tho Athletic Club in its earliest days, and played in the first match against Auckland, in 187.^ Tho King's School (Sydney) is also planning a tour of the Dominion, and intends to play tho Wanganui College in June. All these visits to New Zealand should have tho effect of improving our football (remarks a Sydney writer), as no better grounds than the fields of New Zealand could be found. After all, there seems a possibility that R. Roberts, the Now Zealand centre three-quarter, may be seen in action in Auckland this season He is now recovering from a recent operation, and has not quite decided on his future movements, but members of the Marist Brothers Club are sanguine that he will be assisting them nextMvcok, says the Herald. In connection with the scheme of international matches, the secretary of the New South Wales Union says it is probable that the English Union will arrange for a British team to visit Australia and New Zealand in 1915. With the standard of the game at tho high point it is in Great Britain at present, the visit should be full of possibilities. During the same year it is hoped to arrange a tour to America during the period of the Panama Exposition at San Francisco. The season 1916 should witness a return visit to New Zealand, while the invitation to South Africa to visit Australia and New Zealand in 1917 will probably be renewed. On .Tune 3 Welliugton will most Pnrata's Maori team. The University team will travel to Chcristchurch on Monday to play its annual match with Canterbury College. It has been definitely decided that the New Zealand team for Australia will sail from Wellington for Sydney on Friday, July 3. At Dalefield on Thursday, Dalcfietd defeated Featherston by 9to nil after a. rather one-sided game. Dalofield scores were Ordish 4, Reading 2, Knowles 1, Bambry 1, Morgan 1. The Sydney University team will visit New Zealand for lite regular in-ter-Varsity fixtures this season, and will leave Sydney on August 16.
