ENGINEER'S REPORT.
The engineer reported ,inter alia, as follows: — Te Whiti Riding. The stone work required for the protection to the pier of the Wangaehu bridge has been carried out this month. Metal repairs are being made to Cooper's roiul ou the Te Ore Ore estate. Rangitumau Riding. Weather conditions have been unfavourable to carrying out tin; metal repairs of contract let on Dorset's road, there being a considerable length of unmetulled. r.oad over which it is necessary to houl the 7ne:al. 1 think tin Avork will have to be held over until next spring.
Opaki-Rangitumau Road, contract No. ::!;">, delivering fifiO cubic yards of metal for repairs, unlet at last meeting: I have been unable to get the work under any satisfactory conditions, and 1 would therefore advise that the main contract be abandoned for the season; that urgent patches be dealt with as opportunity offers. Wainuioru Riding. Masterton-Waimata Road, contract No. .">ol2, delivering 1775 cubic yards of metal for repairs: 16158 cubic yards have been delivered by i>. Hogan, making a total length of 241)1 cubic yards, and the total cost, including breaking 80S cubic yards of rock, £7'.)~>. Alfredton Riding. Alfredton-Weber Road, contract Mo. i.OH, delivering 1040 cubic yards of metal: The contractor has encountered extremely wet weather, and is near the end of his work. Contract No. .'iO4, delivering 700 cubic yards, has been completed with in cubic yards extra. Waitowhiti to Tiraumea section: I. have arranged" for the delivery of about (.50 cubic yards on the weaker portions of the above length. Contract No. .'{os (L. and Gt.), SO chains of metalling: The condition of the road was unfavourable for heavy carting, and I stayed work for the season. Castle Hill Road, contract No. :Sl4, metal repairs: Started on Ist inst., but little progress lias been made owing to the state of the weather.
