MONTHLY MEETING.

The- monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday afternoon, there being present, — Crs. W. J. Welch (chairman), A. J. Patchett, T>. W. Foreman, R. F. R. Beetham, C. ■Cross,. J. Miller, A. J. Percy. The sub-telegraph engineer at Masterton (Mr D. E. Parton) wrote asking, the Council to clear trees from Titoki street to permit of the telephone line being free from interruption from this cause. It was decided that the engineer attend to the matter. Messrs Gawith and Logan wrote on behalf of Messrs F. Miller, J. Percy, J. Stoddart, and R. Nichol, asking the Council to allow a gravel reserve on the property of Mr W. Wrigley to be used as a holding paddock for travellingstock. The request was granted. Mr .J. McCarthy compianied of holes which had been made in the road at Te Whiti by surveyors and not properly filled and rammed. Recently he had been driving along the road, and when opposite the resilience of M.v Donald, his horse put a foot in one of the holes and threw all the occupants of his vehicle out on to the road, as well as breaking the shafts of the vehicle and injuring his horse. It was decided to draff the attention of surveyors to the matter complained of.
