TOWN HALL PICTURES.
WITH SCOTT TO THE POLE,
The thrill that ran thrugh the British Empire not quite a year ago when it became known that Captain Scott and his gallant party of explorers had perished in tho Antarctic wastes after reaching the South Pole is still fresh in the minds of everyone. Tho British Antarctic Expedition, under Captain Scott, R.N., left London in June, 1910. It was the greatest scientific enterprise ever sent out of England, aud people in New Zealand had more than ordinary interest in it, by reason of the fact that Lyttelton was made the base from which the expedition worked. After the Terra Nova took her departure for Farthest South nothing was heard of the devoted band of scientists for almost two long years, until news of tho terrible disaster which had overtaken them was flashed upon the world. By the enterprise of the Town Hall Pictures, a magnificent film faithfully depicting "With Scott to the Pole," will be introduced to the Masterton public to-night, at the Town Hall. This was photographed on the spot by the eminent photographic expert, Mr Herbert Pouting, F.R.G.S., who accompanied the expedition, and makes one of the most fascinating records of life in polar regions ever given to the world. Splendid views of the wild ice-bound country are given, including an awe-inspiring scene of Mount Erebus in eruption. Another truly beautiful scene shows Mount Erebus by the light of the midnight sun. Besides being a faithful record of the doings of the party, the film gives splendid views of animal life of antarctic re gions, which are interesting in the extreme. Killer whales, seals, penguins, skua gulls and all manner of creatures are shown in their native state. The Siberian ponies and Esquimaux dogs make a study in themselves which oi,e could devote hours to. A faithful record of the long march south to the spot where the camera had to be left behind at One-Tor, Camp, will be followed with rapt attention. The big film will be supported by a pleasing variety of newpictures.
