TAUERU.
The present spell of dry weather is being much appreciated by farmers here and is enabling them to get their hay and corn crops harvested, which same are much above the average this 3 r ear, one crop of oats, in particular, being something of a record. The straw of this last was some six feet high, and it carried a very heavy head of corn. Grass is very plentiful in the district, in fact it is considered to be more plentiful this summer than it has been for the past 30 years. What little dairy farming there "s done here is naturally, under the circumstances, flourishing. Most kinds of garden stuff have dono exceedingly well, though some kinds of small fruits such as raspberries have not yielded very good crops, owing to tho continual wet weather in November and December, and outdoor grapes have been a failure, owing to a severe frostexperienced here soon after the vines had commenced to bud. Wool carting is still going on, but has slackened off considerably. Dipping has been commenced in the district, also lamb crutching and weaning. The lambs generally speaking are fairly good, but are somewhat unevci. In cases where the lambs were not dipped in December and have been shorn, the maggot liy is causing considerable trouble, and will probably continue to do so until the lambs arc dipped. Mobs of fat sheep are becoming plentiful on the road on their way to the freezing works. The local school is to be deprived of its assistant teacher after the holidays, owing to the average attendance having fallen below the required number to warrant the employment of an assistant. . i v $
