Mr V. Mekalick has been gazetted postmaster and telephonist at Mangarama.

Mr and Mrs N. Fielding, of Petone, and formerly of Masterton, who were on a visit to Masterton, left yesterday by the afternoon train on their returß* home. Mr H. G. Manning, who has been inTj the employ of the W.F.C.A. for the past eight years, and who has occupied the position of manager of the Eketahuna branch for the past twelve months, severs his connections with the firm at the end of September It it understood he will be succeeded by Mr G. Smith, of Greytown, and formerly of Masterton. Mr Manning was an enthusiastic member of the Bowling Club.

Mr F. C. Lewis, who was connected with the late firm of Lowes and Irons, and then with Abraham and William 3, has resigned his position for health reasons. During his connection with these firms, Mr Lewis was a prominent figure, and he was well-known all along the coast. He has been in harness for over twenty years, and havin.tr been regarded almost as a part of the firm he will me much missed in stock circles.

A familiar figure in the person of Mr J. Winteringham will be shortly missed in Eketakuna, he having accepted an appointment with the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company as fat stock buyer in the Dannevirke district. Mr Winteringham has for the past six years asifl) the Eketahuna agent for Messrs Abra- fT ham and Williams, Ltd. Mr WinteringHam, who leaves at the middle of next month, identified himself with a number of local institutions, and was a particularly keen bowler., His departure will be regretted by a largo circle of friends.

With reference to the statement put into circulation by the Eketahuua Express to the effect that Mr J. T. M. Hornsby proposes to contest the Masterton seat at the next general election, we are requested by Mr Hornsby to state that he has not so far given any consideration to the question of contesting any seat at the next election. Mr Hornsby's present ieelings is that he is not at all anxious to ro-enter political life. "I should be ever so much, obliged," Mr Hornsby said, "if you you would ask my friends not to mix me up in party politics at all. lam out of the hurly-burly and don't wish to get into it again. It is a far cry to next election, and meantime I have duties to perform into which I do not wish polities to enter even in the remotest degree.''
