WHAKATAKI.

Lambs are now to be seen in plentiful numbers ou the land around Whakataki, and according to the opinions of several people there is likely to be a record Limbing this season on account of the mild weather. The grass is comin_ along well, and the kowhai trees and clematis are in full bloom. The hillsides ablaze with the golden yellow blossoms of the gorse, present a fine spec- , tacle. In the orchards too the blossomj ing fruit trees herald the coming of 1 spring. ] A fine lunar rainbow was observed . here last Saturday evening. j A fine seal about six feet long came I ashore near here on Thursday. It was j seen by Messrs R. J. Barton, R. Holes, •J. Donovan" and R. Williams, who en- . dcavoured to capture it, but without ; success. This is the second seal which has been seen in this locality lately, ono about eight feet long coming ashore at Castlepoint a few weeks ago. A hall is being erected at Whakataki, and this will be a great boon to .residents of the district, as in the past there has been no suitable accommodation for dances and concerts. A new boardiughouse is being erected at Castlepoint. Settlers in this district are now sending their cream to the Masterton faci tory.
