LANSDOWNE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

The opening social was held on Tuesday evening, in the new church, when there was a good attendance. Eev. J. S. Young presided, and was supported on the platform by Eevs. J. Patersou, Wellington, E. C. Tennent, Martinborough, L. Thompson, Cartcrton, A. T. Thompson, Masterton.

Rev. .1. Pnterson gave some very interesting reminiscences of pastoral work of over forty years ago in the Wairarapa, describing the long itinerating journeys on horseback which he and the late Rev. John Eoss, the first minister of Knox Church, Mastertou, had. He wet forth the ideal relations between pastor and people, and closed with an exhortation full of encouragement to the congregation.

Eevs. E. C. Tenuent, A. T. Thompson and L. Thompson also gave short addresses.

Solos were sung by Miss Jessie McGregor, Messrs E. J. Young and J. Gray. Mr George Gibb, of Wellington, very ably recited "King Robert of Sicily. , ' Mrs Cooper presided at the organ. Key. J. S. Young announced that next Sunday would be a Harvest Thanksgiving Day. The church will be decorated with oats, barley, wheat, and all kinds of fruit in season. Friends are invited to send in gifts of produce of any kind, and those will be sent to the Presbyterian Orphan Home, Wellington.

Mr Hornsby will conduct the morning service at Lausdowne, and also a harvest thanksgiving service at Kopuaranga in the afternoon, and service in the Mauriceville Town Hall in the evening. A party of singers will help with special hymns at Kopuaranga. The finishing touches will be given to the church this week. Among the needs still to be met are a Pulpit Bible, steeple bell and kitchen outfit for socials.

The ladies' guild of the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church intend holding a garden party on Thursday, 27th February, in the grounds of Mr P. L. Hollings, Lansdowne. There will be plain and fancy work for sale, refreshment stalls, and games of various kinds.
