SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE.
It is said that the greatest fighting -^ '■',.' organisation yet formed in the Domin- Agb< ion is the New Zealand Sports Protec- JW tion League—a federation of sportsmen followers and supporters of; sport, the policy and magnitude of which must appeal to even the dullest imagination.' In the forefront of the League is a. Board of Control consisting of Sir George Clifford, Hon ~' Dr Collins, M.L.C., Messrs C. P. Skerrett, K.C., C. W. Tringham and J. H. B. Coates, gentlemen who each have made their marks in their respective callings, and whose names stand for moderation and justice. It is not difficult to conceive the influence the League is going to exercise in the near future. For years past the liberal minded section'-of the ■ ' . community have been protesting individually against the extremist aggression because they knew and felt that if allowed to. continue to work in their own way without opposition the extremists would have the majority, and • act according to their desires. The ■ mM comfort is that the Sports Protection jf; League is rapidly becoming a powerful ' organisation, and will be able to check- '-ii mate effectively any further move of the ; ' "• small but misguided band of enthusl l , : asts. A meeting to consider the niatt-- '■■ er of forming a branch of the League ■-' in Masterton will be held in Murray's Hall at 8 p.m. on 18th February, -wien the general secretary (Mr A. A. Paape) will give an address on the aims and policy of the League.
