MR PAYNE'S VIEWS.

Speaking to a Daily Times reporter, Mr J. Payne, M.P*. for Grey Lynn, wno was on a brief visit to Masterton to-day, said that Clio strike in Wellington promised to bedome a very serious thing. For the .first i'irne on record the Labour Party and the Federation had joined hands, showing that Labour woro determined to stand side by side. It was understood that if tho strike were not settled .by 10 o'clock this morning a general strike from tho North Cape to the Bluff would take place. Ho attended tho men's mooting yesterday, and there was no mistaking the firmness of the men; they intended to see the matter through. There was not one dissentient voices at the meeting. "Had there been," said Mr Payne, "I'm afraid lie would have been badly handled."
