RECENT BURGLARIES

A BOY ARRESTED.

REMANDED TILL FRIDAY,

The lad who was suspected of having committed the recent burglaries was arrested by Constable Dumphey last evening at about 9 15 o'clock. The constable saw a lad coming out of the right-of-way by Yong Kee's premises in Queen-street, and hailed him, but receiving no reply, followed him and discovered him to be James Harris, the "wanted" boy. He was dressed iv a new suit of clothes aud* was wearing a long overcoat.

After the arrest, the boy, accomnauiod by Constable Dumphey and Mr Hamill. "proceeded to a shed on the Homebush-road, where a large assortment of stoleu goods was fouud iv a ioft. Tho goods comprised a bicycle, portmanteaux, rugs, overcoats, cutlery, confectionery, fancy goods, clothing, mercery aud boots, most of which were identified by Mr Hamill as his property. At the Magistrate's Oourt this morning the accused, James Harris, who is ouly fourteen and a-haif years of ago. was formally charged before Mr J. Cross, J.P.. that he did break and enter the shop of Patrick Hamill aud did commit the theft of one overcoat valued at £4 10s, oue suit of clothes valued at £1 os, ouo pair of boots valued at 28s. oue pair of stockings valued at 3s (id, one shirt valued at -Is f'd, one cap valued at 3s (id, aud one pair of braces valued at 3s Gd.

Sergeaut Miller applied for a remaud till Friday next, which was granted.

The accused, beiug under sixteen years of age. will probably be dealt with as a juveuile ofl'etider.
