A rumour lias gained curreucy here that a big coal oi , shipping strike is impending. The rumour arises out of a letter received by the Northern Wairoa Hospital Committee from Messrs J. J. Craig, Ltd., well-known Auckland coal merchants and shipping owners, asking tho committee if it can take ten tons oC coal now for stock, as there is a probability of trouble in the near futuro. AUCIi.LA.ND, Tuesday. In the absence of Mr Craig, no expluuation is obtainable regarding tlie trouble in tho coal trade foreshadowed by the Dargaville telegram. Meantime the Company's representatives will say nothing on the subject.
