A German general (Kleiue), who is an ex-president; of die Navy League, holds pessimistic views on the near future. He said recently, at a Navy League festival:—"Those who assert that there will ho no wars in Dhe future are ripe for the luuatic asylum; defeat in a future war would rnsau for us the end of Germauia, for the whole world is against us. It is regrettable that those in authority fail to point out this danger. War will arise from the conflict of economic interests, and England, our rival in the economic Held, will make that war. I fear that our old superiority in the military domain no longer oxists in its former measure. Not the strength of the army and navy alone wiil dweide the victory: that will be decided by impout'erabi'.ia, that is to stiy, the ethical and moral factors. We must, and will, regenerate the German people iuternally. Of all the peoples of Europe, we possess the least national I pride. We need national pride N aud national honour."
