Hunter aud V. E. Donald. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as under: — From the Waugauui Chamber of Commerce, stating that at a meeting held to discuss the question of differential and longdistance railway rates, and of haviug them placed ou a more equitable footing, they had decided that the besf, coursa was to invite those districts affected to send delegates to a conference in Wellington, when definite proposals could be agreed upon and submitted to the Minister for Railways.

Mr Carey said that in all matters of this kiucl joint effort was essential, and the Mastertou Chamber might, perhaps, be able to render some assistance.

It svas resolve;! that the matter was not ot sufficient importance to Masterton to warrant a delegate being sent to Wellington.

From A. \V. Hogg, drawing atteutiou to the advantages of haviug their luggage checked wJien travelling over long distances in New Zealand.— Received. NORTHERN APPROACH. A letter was received from the Town forwardiug the resolution of the Borough (Council with regard to the Northern Approach, referring the Chamber to the Mastertou County Council.

Mr Douald said he felt it was rather hopeless to try to do anything, but he had drafted a resolution which might nave some effect. He moved that, the iSorough Council having intimated that they are not averse to reconsidering the Northern Approach question, this Chamber earnestly requests the Masterton County Council to reconsider their present scheme with the object of building the bridge or bridges in concrete in place of timber. The resolution was seconded by Mr Carey, who held that the matter was of more importance than might be considered by many. Lansdowue was rapidly increasing in population aud importance, and it seemed a pity that tho bridges should be erected in svood instead of concrete.

Mr Donald said he had been assured by a number of influential people that they were strongly in favour of a concrete bridge.

Mr Caselberg said it seemed to him that the simplest way out of the difficulty was to incorporate Lausdowue and the Borough of Mastertou in one body. He had taken no part in the movement in favour of tho bridge, because it would be at once said that he was not a disinterested party.

Mr Donald said tho Waipoua was not like other rivers,in that it was not fed by the melting snow from the hills. Experience had shown that it was a matter of no great difficulty to erect protective works against encroachment from it. Mr Carey suggested that the County Council intent effect a compromise by erecting the two bridges in ferro-concrate instead of wood. The resolution was carried. NEW COURTHOUSE. Mr Caselberg suggested chat a resolution be passed with regard to the new Courthouse in order that the Mayor's hands might be strengthened at the public meeting. He moved, that this Chamber is of the opinion that the present Courthouse is absolutely unfit tor Court work aud that it strongly urges the Minister for Justice to give the luatter his earnest attention, and that in view of the fact that £5000 was allocated for the work last session the Chamber trusts that the work v/ill bo immediately taken in hand, particularly iv view of the fact that the Supreme Court sessions aie now being heJd regularly in Masterton.

Mr Carey stated he understood Mr Justice Chapman spoke very strongly about the "hencoop" in which he was asked to conduct business during the recent Supreme Court sessions.

The resolution was seconded by Mr Summerell and carried, it being understood that a copy will be sent to Messrs A. W. Hogg and W. O. Buchanan, Ms.P.

The treasurer reported as follows:— Balance at last meeting, £19 4s 8d ; disbursements, £16 us; balance to date, £2 IDs Bd.
