THE NEW COURTHOUSE.

LAN UKQEM WORK

A meeting of thoso interested in tlie erection of a new Courthouse was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Friday afternoon and was presided over by the Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings). The attendance was not large. A resolution that liad been passed at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce with regard to the matter was received and read. It was as follows:—" That this Chamber is of opinion that the present Courthouse is absolutely uuiit for the purpose of Supreme Court sittings or even that of the Magistrate's Court work, and the Chamber strongly urges the Minister of Justice to give the matter his earnest attention. In view of the fact that tlie sum of £5000 was voted last session for the above purpose the Chamber trusts that the works will be imuiedtattly taken in hand, particularly as the Supremo Court is now holding periodical sittings in Mastorton."

After a short discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr G. H. Culleu, socouded by Mr J. Caselberg, that the member for the district be asked to interview the Minister concerned, raid \irge upon him the importance of proceeding at once with the erection of the proposed new Courthouse, and that the resolution of the Chamber of Commerce be also brought under the notice of the Minister.
