KOPUARANGA NOTES.

Tli3 rainfall for the month of January was 5.34 inches, with a maximum of 1.71 inches on the 20th. As a result of this beneficial rain, the laud is thoroughly moist, and the pasture is coming ou well, promising an abundance of feed for winter. The last rain caught the end of the harvesting work, aud those who bad not finished had au anxious time as the wet days continued, but tiio circumstances could easily have been a great deal worse. The committee of ladies appointed to inakg arrangements for the Sunday School treat decided upon the holding of a picnic, to be held on Saturday, ].2th iust., io Mr Miller's paddock. The landowners, urged on by the Department, are making strenuous efforts to deal "bunny" an effective blow. Some settlers laid poison before the recent rain, and, afraid that tlio wet had rendered it ineffective, have reliiid. It is only ou the hills that tlio rabbits appear to be numerous. Ou the flats , and cultivated paddocks thoir relative tlio hare holds command, aud it is amusing to hear of people being punished for destroying hares. Tlio latter do much damage indeed among the young turnips. Several orchards have been visited by unauthorised individuals, who have paid special attention to the pears.
