An unpleasant experience was the lot of Mr S. Gregory, of Oartertou, on Friday He was driving along Khodes-streot, when the breochiug strap broke, and the horse began to kick and 'veutually bolted. The driver managed the horse as best ho could, and rau it into a fence, its legs aud chest being uut somewhat by contact with the wire of the fence, but, fortunately, not seriously. Ono birth, one marriage aud no deaths were registered in Featherston during January. The rainfall recorded in Featherston for January was 11.v.l inches, eleven out of the tlurty-oun days being wet. The heaviest fall was ou January 30th, when 3.0? inches fell.
