A special meeting of the Cartertou School Committee Avas held ou Tuesday night to discuss the matter of iilliug the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr A.""P. Roydhouse. At the Jjjgrmeeting of the Committee, the BoarWorwarded the names of a number of candidates, and asked the Committee to select three from them. The Committee did so, recommending that the first named in their choice be appointed. The Board had sent a reply, appointing the third mentioned on the list, giving as the reason that "under the circumstances tlie third name selected had better be appointed. The first mentioned was young, and another two years' schooling would fully qualify her for the positiou. The'testimonials for the third seemed to be very good." The acton of the Board in' over-riding the Committee was nnauimously condemned, and the following resolution carried :—" That, seeing that the Wellington Education Board had invited the Cartertou School Committee to nominate two or more names of persons qualified to fill the position in the school reudered vacant by the resignation of a pupil teacher, and that the said Beard had appointed the third name on the list in direct opposition to the unanimous choice of the Carterton School Committee, this Gommitee strongly protests against the action of the Boarom selection committee; urges that yW ßoard carefully revieAVS the matter, and respectfully requests that it be referred back to the Carterton School Committee with the Board's reasons °for over-ruling the Committee's selection."

Mrs Lepenski was accorded a vote of thanks for her donation of 7s Gd. It was decided to arrange a match with St. John's, Wellington, for August 15th. A vote of thanks was accorded to all avlio had assisted at the social.

At the Marton Poultry Show on Tuesday, Mr Charles Canton, of Carterton, avou the North Islaud Championship for Fantail pigeons.
