BARE OR ABSOLUTE MAJORITY

Ou Weduesday afternoon, .Mr Laurensou applied for leave to" strike- off the Order Paper the Licensing Polls Absolute Majority Bill, Avhieh Avas doAvn for its second reading.
"Don't AvithdraAV it; I Avant to vote against it," said au Auckland member.
The Bill-would have disappeared in a twinkling, but the Chairman of Committees—Mr R. -McKeuzie—objected. Accordingly, last evening, Mr Laurensou moved its second reading, aud, in doing so, with figures aud facts borrowed from near aud distaut sources, made au able aud telling address, a lengthy discussion eusued.
