EKETAHUNA NEWS.

(Special to Daily Times.) Ji^ The ordinary meeting or the esetahuna Borough Couucil was held on Monday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr A. H. Herbert), and Crs Mead, Baillie aud Knight. Leave of absence was granted Crs Wise, Bright aud Haswell. It was resolved that a flag with the words ''Welcome from Eketahuua" be purchased aud scut to Auckland for the celebratious on the arrival of the fleet. The Works Committee reported that the metalling of Main-street was goiug ahead well, and also that the two new gravel pits which have beeu opened give promise of proving satisfactory. An application was received from the Oddfellows Lodge asking that they be exempted from paying a license fee for their hall. The Mayor mentioned that it was his intention to be present at the Municipal Conference, and also the Aucklaud festivities on the arrival of the American fleet.

The ordinary meeting of Court Makakahi, No. 8382. was held ou Tuesday, Bro. ¥. Wise, C.R., presiding. The Woodwards reported six brothers as being sick. One new member was accepted by clearance, and oue proposed. A long discussion in connection with the ceremonial was indulged in, and proved ing, and brought out the flftating abilities of the members, and twquestiou of the iuvestmeut of the surplus funds of the Court evidenced the keeu interest takeu by the members in uourt matters.

Exceptionally fine weather has prevailed "here during this week, aud is having a beneficial effect ou stock. Farmers generally express the opinion that the winter, so far, has been above the average, and are looking forward to a good season uext year.

The building trade seems to bo pretty brisk in the district at present, and several houses are iv course of erection, aud tenders for others will be corniug out shortly. The local brick and tile works have received orders for thirty thousand bricks during the nast week.

The new addition to the Post Office was opened last week, and, although the carpeuters have not quite finished, the addition proves to be of great advantage, as the officials have vow a. fair amount of room to work in. whereas before the work of tl^. office was greatly incommoded by tjßlimited space at their disposal.
