MASTERTON HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

At the meeting of the Hospital Trustees, yesterday, a deputation of Mastertou chemists, consisting of Messrs E. G. Eton, H. T. Wood, aud J V. Gordon, waited on the Trustees with regard to coutracts for the supply of drugs to the Hospital for 1908. The Trustees went into committee, ami heard the deputation's proposals. The deputation thanked the Trustees aud withdrew. Tenders for other supplies were then considered. The tender ot 1. J. Staples for milk, at lOd a gallon, was accepted. Edward Polling's tender for bread, at i}4 d the 21b loaf, with 5 per cent discount, was docliuod. It was stated that all the Mastertou bakers had adopted tho same price. The Butchers' Union submitted a list of rates, which excited considerable amusement. Three tenders were sent, in but it was decided to accept none; aud ou the motiou of Mr Fisher it was resolved that "The matter of meat purchase be left to the Matrou. Tenders for groceries were receiveci from the W.F.C.A. aud Graham and Co. Tho former, being the lowest, was accepted. Tho tender of Z. M. Hoar, for supply of coffius, was accepted. . . The Matron wrote saying, that in view of moviug into the new Hospital, it would be necessary to increase both the nursing aucl the domestic staff. The wards being so far apart, separate sets of nurses would be required; and, for night duty, two uurses would be needed iustead of oue. An extra probationer for the fever ward would also be wauted. The nurses would go iv turn to the fever ward for oue mouth each. There should be au agreement, to be signed by all probationers, providing for their staying for three years training. Another housemaid would be required, and a bigger girl as kitcheu maid, making altogether five maid-servauts. Austin Weller wished it to be remembered that he was promised au increase of salary on moving into the uew Hospital. He is a good aud useful servaut. Another man will be required shortly as gardener, stoker, etc. Now and larger sterilisers are needed—three in all. Telephones will be necessary from the Maiu Hospital to the fever ward, and speaking-tubes or telephones from the wards to the administration quarters. It would be well to enclose the ends of the verandahs, to shelter patients and convalescents.

Mr Johu Lonsdale. Wellington, wrote saying that the new ambulance brougham would arrive about December 20th. Cost:—Brougham, £120; with packiug case, insurance, duty total £147 14s lid. The duty would probably be returned on application to the Minister of Customs. Mr H. M. Boddingtou, Hon. Sec. of the Ladies' New Hospital Conuttee, wrote forwarding a statement of accouuts, aud the sum of £57 15s lid, net proceeds of the afternoon tea, concert, etc., at the opening of the new Hospital. Following is a statement of accounts:—Receipts—Refreshments donations, £22 Is (id: gate takings (afternoon), £15 3s; gate takings (concert), £9 18s lid; Tickets, £2 IBs; Gypsev fortune teller, £1 Os Gd; auction sale (lamb), £5 7s Gd; auction sale (cakes), los; cakes sold to committee, £1 14s 6d: post cards, £1 16s 3d; total, £60 9s 9d. Expenditure— Wairarapa Age, £1 Is Gd; Wairarapa Daily Times, Gs; McLeod aud Young (post cards), 9s; breakages, 9s 4d; cab fares. 8s; total, £2 13s lOd; balauce handed to Hospital Trustees, £57 los lid. The disposal of the money was left by the Ladies' Committee to the Trustees. Hearty votes of thanks were awarded to the Ladies' Committee, and to the Hon. Secretary, Mr H. M. Boddingtou. Dr Valiutine, the Inspector-General of Hospitals, wrote enclosing cards to be filled in and returned, giving data respecting each patient discharged from the hospital. Another letter from Dr Valiutine stated that a conference of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards would be held in Wellington in first week of June next, to discuss the Hospitals aud Charitable Institutions Act Amendment Bill, which is to be introduced next session.

A third letter from Dr Valiutine was received suggesting certain improvements in the internal drainage arrangements, aud the discharge outlets.

A letter was received from the Acting Town Clerk, asking that an agreement be executed respecting water supply to the new Hospital. Letters were received from the Secretary of the Wairarapa District Hospital Board, asking for estimates to be sent not later than March 14th, 1908; and inquiring if Hospital Trustees are prepared to cuter into an agreement with regard to the equipment and maintenance of the Infectious Diseases Hospital. A letter was received from Mr J. H. Wardrop, Secretary to the School Commissioners, containing their assent to the dedication as a road of a certain piece of land now let by them to Mr H. E. Gosnell, provided that that gentleman's consent be obtained. On the motion of Mr J. C. Ewington, it was resolved "That three new sterilisers be procured at the cost of £27 6s 6d."

Mr J. B. Keith was appointed visiting Trustee for the month. The question of erecting the necessary outbuildings at the new Hospital was held over till next meeting.
