CHARITABLE AID.
PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS BY DR VALINTINE.
Tho Inspootor-Gonoral of Hospitals (Dr Yalintine) is oudoavouring to minimise, ho puts in a circular, "some of tho abuses of the prosout system" of eharitablo aid. To that end ho has issued cards to all hospital and eharitablo aid boards from which, when filled in, a quarterly report will bo compiled. Tnis roport the boards will bo ablo to correct so that tho nanios of recipients who have gono off the ratos, or who havo died, may bo taken off the list. The filling in of tho cards begins on Ist January next, and information of recipients of relief aud hospital treatment are asked for as from Hist March last to Ist January noxt, in order that statistics may bo" prepared for the year ending 551 st March next.
The boards are roquirod to forward, in the case of indigeuts receiving aid, tho full names, ago, nationality, roligiou, occupation, period of residence in tho Dominion, length of time in receipt of relief, amount allowed per weok in rent, rations and money, cause of poverty, nature of incurablo or chronic complaint, single or married, and, if so, whether the husband (or wife) is alive, ages, nanios and earning capacity of children (if any), and if relatives are in receipt of eharitablo aid, or in a position to help. In regard to hospital patiouts, the information asked for will bo the date of tho pationt's admission, nature of complaint and oporation, if further roliof is roquirod, aud other details similar to those required for cases of charitable relief.
