A HIGHLAND BURIAL.
The funeral of the late Mr Aloysius Mac Donald, at Wellington, on Thursday afternoon, was an impressive ceremony. The body, in accordance with the wisli of the deceased, was placed on an ordinary lorry, the coffin being draped in MacDouald tartan. As the cortege moved towards the cemetery, Pipers D. Campbell and Scott played the weird and impressive lament, "Lord Lovatt's Lament." The mingled tolling of the church bells and the strain of the pipes could be heard far down the long line of cabs which followed as the procession slowly wended its way to Karori. The chief mourners were the deceased's five sous.
The service at the grave was very impressive. At his own request, a spot had beeu chosen on the southern side of the knoll in the Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery, and here the body was laid to rest. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. Father Malouey. The pipers played "Lochaber No More" over the open grave. Six members of the Wellington staff of the Bank of New South Wales acted as pall-bearers. In the morning a solemn pontifical Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Basilica, the body of the deceased lying in the oak casket in the middle of the church. His Grace Archbishop Redwood, who officiated, was assisted by the Rev. Father Finnerty (of Timaru) as deacon, and the Rev. Father Bowden, as sub-deacon. The Gregorian chant was sung by a choir of six priests, led by Fathers Ainsworth and Malouey. The service was largely attended by parishioners. The coffin was draped iv Highland fashion, with M'Douald tartan plaid.
