While a team of twelve bullocks was passing over what appeared to be hard ground, the soil suddenly collapsed, sinking to a depth of four feet and landing the cattle into a mass of smouldering fire beneath. Eight of the bullocks were burned to death, and three others severely injured. In rescuing these the driver had his foot badly scorched.
