A sharp shock of earthquake was felr iv Carterton on Sunday afternoon. The shock was also felt in Greytowu.
Tfie work of erecting a two-foot brick wall round the branch premises of the W.F.C.A., Carterton, is in progress. The bell to be hung over the new Fire Brigade Station at Carterton will be 45 feet high from the ground The tender of Messrs Wallace, Massou and Co. lias been accepted for the construction of a 15ft steel tower.
A deputation from the Wairarapa Rugby Union will confer with the Ground Committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. anci A. Society, on Friday, with reference to obtaining the Showgrounds for football purposes. Mr T. "Sparks, of Belvedere, has sufficiently recovered from his recent illness "to be able to take outdoor exercise.
Inspector Ellison was on a visit to South Wairarapa this week. It is stated that Mr P. Gaskin, of Parkvale, has disposed of his SIG-aere farm to Mr Herd, of Mastertou. at £25 per acre. The Martinborough Cricket Club lias a credit of £0 11s 10d, with outstanding subscriptions amounting to £11 105. Tlip Club holds a social in July next.
A valuable pipe lias been presented to the Greytown Fire Brigade, for competition', by Mr W. McFarlane. Mr and Mrs A. C. Prentice, of Greytowu, left there on Monday for their new home, Waipawa.
