RECENT BUSH FIRES IN SOUTHLAND.

INVEROARGILL, Last Night

An echo of the Seaward bush fires was heard at the meeting of the Southland Land Board, to-day, when the Commissioner of Crown Lands informed the Board that, in consequence of the recent bush fires, and the withsgfiwal of (5000 or 7000 acres in those "blocks from State forest reservation, h<>. proposed to re-survey the blocks into sections, ranging from 100 to 200 acres, as w)on as possible, so that intending settlers might benefit by the recent fire. The Board resolved to adopt the Commissioner's proposals. The Board also decided to recommend the Government to supply grass-seed to the value of 10s per acre to Crown lessees, who have had grass areas destroyed by fire. The Board could not deal with any losses by freeholders.
