EDUCATION BOARD.

{By Telegraph—Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, This Day. At the meeting of the Education Board, yesterday, a long discussion took place over the Pahiatua School. The Department recommended the sale of'tl.l9 present site, and the transfer of the school to the new site, the Govetmnent providing £1300, and leaving-, £2000 to be found by the Board. ' No definite resolution was arrived at. As no reply had been received concerning the new site proposed for Eketahuna School, Mr Hogg urged that the laud selected by the Board, School Committee and Headmaster should be secured. It was resolved to again urge the Minister to effect its purchase. A deadlock between parents and the Department has occurred over the proposed school at the Dyer Settlement, the Department insisting on coaching the juveniles to Maxtinborough, and the parents resolutely demanding the establishment of a school. It was decided to again urge the erection and establishment of a school, the Board being of opinion that the existence of thirty children of school age fully warranted the settlers in the demand they were making. The Chairman entertained the proposals made with regard to the provision of secondary education for certificated pupils from the primary schools of the city, adding that pending the erection of a. High School alongside of the present Boys' College the College Governors would endeavour to find room for tiiose entitled to higher education. Satisfaction was expressed at the conciliatory and altered attitude of the College Governors, and the hope was expressed that if any distinctions were made in future the preferential claims of the winners of free places would be recognised. It was decided to ask the Department, in the, meantime, to arrange for the exemption of fees in the College and Girls' Higli Schools by winners of scholarships. Messrs Lee, Hogg and Field were balloted for re-election this year.
