MASTERTON ABATTOIR.
Last Month's Work
A report on the operations of the Masterton Public Abattoir for the past month, tabled by Mr D. Elliot, manager and inspector, at last night's meeting of the Borough Council, showed that the aggregate fees amounted to £95 8s !)d. Cattle slaughtered numbered 129, calves 12, sheep and lambs 707, and pigs 92. The manager added that the succeeding months would in all probability exceed the amount for the last month, as the charges for the first week were less by £5 8s 3d than the average of the three weeks following. He reported that the general working of the abattoir had gone on very smoothly, considering that the works were yet in their initial steps. The butchers and all concerned seemed agreeable and willing to comply with all regulations and requests. He had condemned totally, during the month, four cattle and one sheep as unfit for human consumption ; also Ihe heads and tongues of four cattle, and thirteen pigs, the latter for minor local affections calculated not to interfere with the purity of the carcase.
