MASTERTON HOSPITAL.

Meeting of Trustees

■Tho monthly meeting of tho Masterton Hospital Trustees was held in Messrs Abraham and Williams' rooms, to-day. Mr J. A. Renall presided, in tho absence at Napier, on the To Aute commission, of Mr A. W. Hogg. Thoro wore also present: —Messrs W. Fisher, J. 0. Ewington, W, Harris, M. J. 11. Jackson, J. B. Keith, and J. C. Cooper.

Tho Troumirer's statement allowed receipts for tho month to amount to £921 11.. 3d, and disbiirHorncnts £81. 8s 4d, and with a balance of £19 IBs lid at last meeting, tho present balanco to credit amounting to £887 Is lod.

Accounts amounting to £45 is lOd were passed for payment.

Tho Matron's report, showed fifteen patients under treatment at last meeting, sevonteon admitted, fourteon discharged, two died, leaving sixteen in the institution at present.

The Committee set up to consider the question of promotion and salaries of probationer nurses reported having considered the practice at the Napier and Palmerston North Hospitals, and the regulations of tho Wellington District Hospital, from which the folloAvina Avcro extracted and recommended

for adoption : —l. Applicants for admission as probationers must furnish a certificate of health, testimonials as to character, produce evidence of fair education and satisfactory proof of age. 2. Probationer nurses shall bo taken on trial for throe months, and if found suitable at the end of that time should be taken on as junior probationers, and receive a salary of £18 for tho first year, and £25 for the second and third years, provided they have passed the Matron's course.- -The recommendations were approved.

The Matron reported that if Nurse Steward was promoted to fill the position of a charge nurse tho appointment of a probationer would be sufficient. On the recommendation of Drs Ross and Archer Hosking it Avas decided to promote Nurse Steward, and with the approval of the Matron to appoint Miss Johnston (Fernridge) probationer. It Avas decided to write to the architects requesting them to push forward the completion of specifications and have tenders invited for the new hospital as soon possible. Before calling tenders it Avas decided to submit the specifications to Drs Hosking and Rosss, and a Committee comprising the Acting-Chairman, Messrs J. B. Keith, W. Harris and J. C. EAvington.
