The State Coal project is attracting some attention now, but as far as we can judge, the State supply will be of no great benefit to the working man. The lines on which it seems to be moving lie in the direction of a dep6t and a man to weigh and bag coal. Expenses of this character do not make coal cheap. When a truck comes here, or trucks, it, or they, should be unloaded into boxes and delivered straight away to fill prepaid orders. By this means there would be only one handling and no expense in either weighing or bagging, as boxes could be made to hold definite quantities. However, we hardly expect to see the project carried through on strict business lines, and yet these seem to us to be the only ones on which any real tangible benefit can be obtained by consumers.
