NIREAHA NOTES.

(Special to Daily Times.") The weather has decidedly improved during the last few days and quite a number of people may be seen taking sun-baths, at least, every person seemed to enjoy the sunshine after being storm bound. We regret to hear that one of-the sawmillers in Atea has lost a very fine draught horse. After being treated the animal died on Sunday. The cause of death was due to it being staked in the body. The petition, praying the Minister of Telegraphs to relieve the guarantors of the Nireaha telephone from further liability, was presented to the Eketahuna County Council, on Saturday last, and will be forwarded on to the proper quarter. The reason of the petition is because quite recently a neighbouring locality has had the _riMephono % service granted free of all cost. district thus favoured has only half of the business of Nireaha, and the favoured ones use three miles of plant, etc., which the few Nireaha guarantors are paying for. We feel sure that our Member, when he hears particulars, will do his utmost lo get every district treated alike and fairly. The Government have started work on the Nireaha-Parkville-road. This fact, lam sure, will please both residents in ,the backblocks and also in Eketahuna. j A Presbyterian service (monthly) was conducted here on Sunday last by Mr Tocker. Mr Tocker, although a new arrival, has made rapid headway in his work, The milk supply at the cheese factory and creamery is gradually getting less, and by the beginning'of next month both will most likely close down for the season. The Nireaha people are glad to see the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce and the County Council are urging the authorities to get the cut out forest reserves surveyed and put on the market. As the reserves stand JBpresent, they are only a harbour for all sorts of weeds; and certainly, as they are at present, they retard seriously the progress of the locality. A good many sportsmen have been pigeon shooting in this locality during the last fortnight, but as far as I have seen and heard they have had a good deal more labour than pigeons.
