Attitude of the Porte.
British Fleet Ready for
Action
(Received litis Morning, I.G con.) London, Last Night. The Sultan, in agreeing to withdrew from Tabah, declared the status quo aute restored. This was regarded as insufficient, and an explanation followed, which, according to the Morning Post is satisfactory.
The Daily Mail says tho Sultan tried to secure the demarcation of boundaries by Turks and Egyptians.
The Constantinople correspond ent of the Daily Telegraph states that the Sultan is practically alone in resisting delimitation of the territory in dispute by an Anglo-Turkish Commission. He considers Egypt a vassal State of Turkey, and, therefore, there can be no frontier question argued. The Sultan, according to the correspondent, claims that he originally confided ihe Sinai peninsula to the personal administration of the Khedive.
The Daily Mail says that Britain intended to shell the forts at the entrance to the Dardanelles if her demands were not complied with.
Information from other sources makes it still uncertain -whether the submission of the Porte is unequivocal. The Athens correspondent says that, at the best, dilatory tactics have been renewed. The British fleet remains under steam at Phalerum, ready for immediate action if necessary.
