MAURICEVILLE NEWS.

(Special to Daily Times.)

Following a spell of very fine weather, heavy rain set in on Saturday afternoon, and continued until Monday morning. The rivers are much swollen.

The doubtful pleasure of motoring was instanced here on Sunday afternoon, when a horse and spring dray, with an automobile in tow, were to be seen struggling through wind, rain and mud into the township. The motor's failure to go alone was not clue to any mishap to the machinery, but was caused by the benzine becoming diluted with rain water. To judge by the rain soaked, mud-bespattered condition of the travellers, the opinion is at once formed that motoring is not at all times what it is " cracked up " to be.

A team, to be chosen from the following, will represent the Mauriceville Rifle Club in a against the Eketahuna Mounted Rifles, at Eketahuna, on Thursday next :— R. F. Wilton, C. Hoiteins, H. Hoffeins, C. Blewett, C. Brooks, F. Kummer, A. Larsen, A. Dagg, E: Dagg, D. H. Rutherford, I. Edmonds, and J. Jacobsen.

The banquet held by the Foresters' in the old school-house, Mauriceville West, on Saturday evening, proved a pleasant function. The catering, which was on a lavish scale, reflected great credit on the caterer, Mr Wm. Jessen, who received the congratulations of the forty-five members present on the excellence of his arrangements. During the evening songs, recitations, etc., were contributed by Brothers Kirk, Neilsen, Sigvertsen, Lunan and Fletcher. The following toast list was honoured : —Wellington District Foresters, Ladies, Caterer, Daiiy Farmers, Old Foresters. The singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant evening
