Mobilising Militia for Active

Service

Troops to go to Zululand

(Received Lad Night, at 10.42 p.m.) Pietermaritzuurg, Yesterday. Bambaata is still hiding in the forest at Nkandhla.

Owing to the. Zulu chiefs Signaudi and Xudubi refusing to co-operate in the efforts to secure Bambaata's capture, the Govern, rnent states that the situation is now less satisfactory, and there is further mobilisation of militia.

Co.'onel Manscl has moved his force to the Nkandhla district.

Dinizulu, the paramount chief, has warned Signandi that he is responsible for the capture of Bambaata, since it was he who allowed him to enter the forest.

The Government is calling for volunteers for a special corps for active service in Zululand under Colonel Royston.

It is reported at Eshowe that Signandfs tribe has joined Bambaata. The military authorities have requested the Government to send troops to Zululand.

Mr Sanders recommends the imposition of a fine on Signandi of a thousand cattle and its collection in the presence of a white force. Such a course would be in the nature of an ultimatum to the suspected chiefs. Three hundred light infantry and a section of artillery at Durban are mobilising. The artillery will proceed to Dundee.
